The drow are the dark, subterranean kin of elves and eladrin. Split off from the old Fey Empire in an event known as The Conflagration, the drow have become distrustful and traitorous under the influence of Lolth. From years of living underground and worshiping the aforementioned dark god, they have gained the ability to see in the dark and limited control over darkness.
The drow believe that those who are truly intelligent, strong, or wise will exploit those around them for personal gain. Their society is a constant struggle for power between various factions and families, all ruthless and perfidious to the end. True trust and friendship are rare.
Most drow revere Lolth and her priestesses but trust neither. Due to the influence of the temples of Lolth, drow society is matriarchal, ruled by matrons.
The Drow of Deepwrought
The society of drow living in Deepwrought is atypically stable. That isn’t saying much, but it’s enough to make it the epicenter of drow culture in Gaea. The Deepwrought drow are divided into four houses: the House of Blades, the House of Lolth, the House of Spirits, and the House of Warlocks. Each house has a matron, who holds most of the house’s power, and an assassin, who “negotiates” with the other houses. It is said that the assassins once had their own house, called the House of Shadows, but that it long ago fell to an unknown enemy.
